Threads

Time: 2 minutes per brand. Threads copies are up to 500 characters, with links written out and one hashtag (Threads turns it into a topic). Images come through Facebook, so set up Facebook first (guide 02). Without Facebook, Threads posts the text only.

Before you start

  1. Open the Threads app and sign in with the brand's Instagram account. Create the profile.

Connect

  1. In the app, open Connections > Threads. If it says it uses SocioRelay's own app, press Log in: (your brand) and approve while signed in to that brand's Threads profile.
  2. Repeat for any other brand with its own Threads profile.

Coming soon: Meta is still reviewing SocioRelay's app for Threads, so Threads can't be connected yet. We'll email you as soon as it opens; it's included in your plan.

Your own developer app (optional, advanced)

Only needed if Connections asks you for keys instead of offering Log in, or if you'd rather use your own developer app. Paste its keys in Connections, press Save keys, then Log in. Use your app's callback address shown in Connections (for example https://your-business.app.sociorelay.com/callback).

Step 1: Create a separate Meta app for Threads

Meta does not allow Threads in the same app as other uses, so make a new one.

  1. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps and click Create app. Name it, for example "Our Business Threads".
  2. Use case: Access the Threads API.
  3. Business portfolio: "I don't want to connect a business portfolio yet" is fine.
  4. Click Create app.

Step 2: Permissions and settings

  1. Use cases > Access the Threads API > Customise > Permissions: click Add next to threads_content_publish and threads_manage_insights.
  2. Settings (same page): the three callback boxes are required. Type your website address in each and press Enter, so it becomes a tag. Click Save. ("Form can't be saved" means Enter was not pressed.)

Step 3: Add the profile as a tester

  1. App roles > Roles > Add people > Threads Tester: type the Threads username. Click Add.
  2. Accept the invite: on threads.com (signed in as that profile), go to Settings > Account > Website permissions > Invites > Accept.
  3. Refresh the Roles page. It shows Accepted.

Step 4: Connect in the app

  1. Use cases > Access the Threads API > Settings > User Token Generator: click Generate access token next to the profile. Approve. Copy the token.
  2. In the app: Connections > Threads. Paste the token in the brand's box and press Connect.
  3. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for any other brand.

Good to know

  1. Tokens last 60 days and renew themselves each week while posts go out.
  2. If posting stops for over 60 days, press Log in again.
