Facebook and Instagram

Time: 5 minutes. One login connects every Facebook Page you manage, and the Instagram account linked to each one.

Before you start: Instagram

  1. Open the Instagram app > Settings > Account type and tools > Switch to professional account (Business or Creator).
  2. Go to Meta Business Suite (https://business.facebook.com) > Settings > Instagram accounts > Connect, and link Instagram to your Facebook Page.
  3. Repeat for each brand.

Before you start: the Page ID

  1. Open your Facebook Page > About > Page transparency. The Page ID is a long number.
  2. In the app: Business and platforms > Brands > Facebook Page ID. Paste it and press Save settings.

Connect

  1. In the app, open Connections > Facebook Pages and Instagram. It says it uses SocioRelay's own app.
  2. Press Log in with Facebook. Sign in as a Page admin.
  3. When Facebook asks, choose Opt in to all (or tick every Page and every Instagram account you want), then continue and save.
  4. Back in the app, each Page and its Instagram account are listed and the labels turn green.

Early access while Meta reviews SocioRelay's app. Email info@sociorelay.com with your Facebook name and Page and we'll switch it on for your account, usually the same day. Facebook then shows you a request to accept (Settings and privacy > Settings > Apps and websites); accept it, then press Log in. If a login says the app isn't available or active, or that you're not a tester, early access isn't switched on yet: email us.

Your own developer app (optional, advanced)

Only needed if Connections asks you for keys instead of offering Log in, or if you'd rather use your own developer app. Paste its keys in Connections, press Save keys, then Log in. Use your app's callback address shown in Connections (for example https://your-business.app.sociorelay.com/callback).

Step 1: Create the Meta app

  1. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps and click Create app.
  2. Name it, for example "Our Business Scheduler", and enter your email.
  3. Use cases: choose Manage everything on your Page. If offered, also add Manage messaging and content on Instagram.
  4. Business portfolio: choose yours, or "I don't want to connect a business portfolio yet".
  5. Click Create app.

Step 2: Add the permissions

  1. Open Use cases > Manage everything on your Page > Customise.
  2. Click Add next to each of: pages_show_list, pages_read_engagement, pages_manage_posts, pages_read_user_content, read_insights, business_management.
  3. Open Use cases > the Instagram use case > Customise > the API setup with Facebook login tab.
  4. Click Add next to: instagram_basic, instagram_content_publish, instagram_manage_insights. (Ignore the "API setup with Instagram login" tab. It is not used.)

Step 3: Copy the app keys

  1. Open App settings > Basic.
  2. Add your website's Privacy Policy URL and click Save changes.
  3. Copy the App ID and the App secret (click Show).
  4. In the app: Connections > Facebook Pages and Instagram. Paste both and press Save keys.

Step 4: Get a login token

  1. Open https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer
  2. On the right, Meta App: choose your app. User or Page: choose User Token.
  3. Under Permissions, use Add a permission to add all nine permissions from Step 2.
  4. Click Generate Access Token.
  5. In the Facebook window, choose Edit settings (or Opt in to all), tick every Page and every Instagram account, then continue and save.
  6. Click the copy icon next to the token.

Step 5: Connect in the app

  1. In Connections > Facebook Pages and Instagram, paste the token into the Log in box.
  2. Press Connect. The window lists each Page and its Instagram account.
  3. The labels turn green. The token is swapped for a permanent Page token, so you do not need to repeat this.

Good to know

  1. Instagram and Threads need the image at a public web address. The agent reuses the image from the Facebook post. If Facebook is not posting that day, it uploads the image to your Page as a hidden photo (not shown on the Page).
  2. Changing the Facebook password, or removing the app, ends the login. Press Log in with Facebook again.
  3. Crop any token or key out of screenshots you share.
