Blog - Shopify
Time: 10 minutes. Needs: store owner or staff with app development permission.
Step 1: Create a custom app
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels > Develop apps.
- If asked, click Allow custom app development.
- Click Create an app. Name it "SocioRelay".
- If Shopify says custom apps are now created in the Dev Dashboard, create the app there with the same permissions (Step 2) and install it on your store.
Step 2: Give it permission to write blog posts
- Open Configuration > Admin API integration > Configure.
- Tick write_content and read_content (Online Store pages, blogs and articles). Click Save.
Step 3: Install and copy the token
- Open API credentials and click Install app, then Install.
- Click Reveal token once under Admin API access token and copy it. It is shown once.
Step 4: Add the website in the app
- Blog > Add a website. Blogging system: Shopify blog.
- Website address: your shop's public address, for example
https://www.yourshop.com. - Store address:
yourshop.myshopify.com. - Admin API access token: paste it.
- Press Save, then Test connection. It lists your blogs with their id and handle.
- Press Settings again and fill in the Blog id and Blog handle of the blog to post to (often "news"). Save.
Good to know
- Shopify calls this its "REST Admin API", which it now marks as legacy. It still works for store-owned apps; the API version field can be updated if Shopify asks.
- The category becomes a tag; the SEO title and meta description fill the article's search listing.
